Bible Story Video Questions: (Watch the video and ask your kids these questions)

  1. Who did Jesus meet? (a Samaritan woman, John 4:7)
  2. What did Jesus ask for? (a drink of water, John 4:7)
  3. Why was it strange for Jesus to talk to a Samaritan? (Jews did not interact with Samaritans, John 4:9)
  4. What did Jesus offer? (living water, John 4:10)
  5. Who did Jesus say He is? (Jesus said He is the Messiah.)
  6. What did the Samaritans realize about Jesus? (Jesus is the Savior of the world, John 4:42)
  7. Have you had the living water Jesus offers?

Jesus told the Samaritan woman He is the Messiah. She was thirsty not only for water, but for a relationship with God. Only Jesus can provide the way for us to be reunited with God. The woman went and told the other people in her town about Jesus. At first, some believed in Him because of what she told them, but when they met Jesus and He stayed with them, they believed because of His words and actions to show them who He is.
In our lives, we can tell others about Jesus and show them by our actions that He has changed us, but most importantly we can show them the Bible, where Jesus’ words are recorded that He is who He said He is. Who did Jesus say He is? Jesus said He is the Messiah.

DISCUSSION STARTER VIDEO:

Discussion Starter Video Questions:(Watch the video and ask your kids these questions)

  1. Have you every had something great that other people wanted?
  2. How do you think the thirsty kids felt?
  3. If you had something someone else wanted to needed, would you share?

When people don’t know Jesus, they are thirsty for God’s presence and for life. They may not even
know they need Jesus, but they do. Everyone needs Jesus. He is the only way to have life!
The Holy Spirit gives us life when we trust in Jesus. Then, we can share the gospel with others to help
them find life in Jesus too! The best part is, no matter how many people we share the gospel with, we can never “run out” of living water. The more people who have faith in Jesus, the better!

  1. BIBLE STORY ACTIVITY SHEET FOR YOUNGER KIDS (PRINTABLE)
BIBLE STORY ACTIVITY SHEET FOR OLDER KIDS (PRINTABLE)

  2. DO IT! (SENT OUT IN MAILER)

Read John 4:1-14 in a Bible or Bible app.
John 4:13-14 “Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Take the balloon provided and put a little bit of water in it. Pinch the top so it doesn’t spill, and take it outside.
Read John 7:38. Now squeeze the balloon and let the water out so it makes a “spring of living water!” See how high you can get it and ask this question:
What is Jesus talking about when He says He can give living water?
Read our unit verse: Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6) What does this mean?
See also Isaiah 12:3 Isaiah 44:3

  3. VERSE ACTIVITY: Look up John 14:6 in the Bible. Read it 3 times taking turns if you can. Answer these 3 questions:
      • What does it say about God?
      • What does it say about me?
      • What am I going to do about it?

  4. VERSE GAME: MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN Write the verse (in words or phrases) on index cards or pieces of paper.  Make two sets. Lay out the index cards to form a grid. Take turns looking for matching cards. Once all matches have been found, arrange the cards in order and read the verse.
For an added challenge, find the matching pairs in the order they will need to be arranged.

BIBLE VERSE: “Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'” - John 14:6

ASK YOUR FAMILY: (also in mailer)
Would you rather…

  • Have coke or pepsi?
  • Have an icee or a milkshake?
  • Have hot chocolate or hot apple cider?
  • Have water or living water?

In John 4:7-14 Jesus told the Samaritan woman He would have given her “living water.” According to the Bible (see John 4, John 7:38, Isaiah 12:3 & Isaiah 44:3) what is living water and how do you get it?

Would you rather...hang out with your family or friends?

Read John 4:7-9. Jesus was hanging out with a Samaritan woman, but the verse says “Jews did not associate with Samaritans”
Has there ever been someone you didn’t want to hang out with because of their race or color?  What did Jesus do? Pray & ask God to help you hang out with others and tell them about Him no matter what color they are.
